Dr. Tan is the managing director of risk management at the Midway Group. Prior to joining Midway in March of 2007, he spent three years providing quantitative support and developing analytical systems at Bank of America’s MBS/ABS desk. Dr. Tan also worked at Citigroup in the debt capital markets where he designed, built, and deployed a credit-oriented data warehouse and wrote analytical software. Much of his computational thinking was shaped by his five-years at Xerox Research (1995-2000) as a member of the research staff. He subsequently applied his computational know-how to identifying patterns of fraud and money-laundering in massive financial data warehouses and the founding of a start-up in bio-informatics. Dr. Tan earned his BS in 1989 at the University of Utah and post-graduate degrees, M.S. and PhD, at the University of Rochester in 1991 and 1997 respectively, all in electrical engineering. His PhD was on the electromechanical properties of granular materials.
